The Object Model Builder is the application in which you build the object models that you use in the DNE. A chief benefit of managing your knowledge in the DNE is that you can organize everything visually, either representing relations between pieces of information on a knowledge map or representing what you want to do with your information on a process model, etc. You can make these maps and models more powerful by building them in their own unique object model. In an object model, different kNowledge Elements (NEs) play different roles, and these different roles are indicated graphically. What each different graphic means in each model is determined in the Object Model Builder (OMBuilder).
On the map above, all of the NEs look the same, so the roles they play in the model can't be determined just by a glance. However, on the same map below, the roles of the NEs are clearly indicated by the different graphics (images and shapes) for each of the NEs.
The graphics (here, squares, circles and hexagons) add value to the map by letting you know exactly what each of the NEs is used for. Graphics can be any image you want, including full color images, and can be squares, circles or hexagons.
In OMBuilder, you decide what graphics you want to use in a model and what types of objects you want those graphics to represent. You can build and use as many different models as you want, and your models can follow whatever rules you think are best. Notice that the active NE and the one to its right are both circles
If your company already has particular modeling protocols that it uses, you can build models that follow all those protocols. Simply create the model you want, using the graphics you choose to represent the objects you need. |
