Room and DNE Configurations

Top  Previous  Next

The DNE lets you save room and DNE configurations as tiles ( Tile layout room and Tile layout office ). A configuration is the state of the room or DNE at a particular point in time. A configuration is the layout of the room or the full DNE when it is saved. Which NE is active, what NEs and tiles are on the bench, what NEs have been spilled or what tile is being edited, etc., is saved in a room or DNE configuration. The ability to save and access different room and DNE configurations facilitates multitasking by allowing you to keep completely different work environments for different projects without creating confusion.

DNE and room configurations can be saved either actively (save a configuration at any time and it will attach to the active NE) or passively (activate the auto-file function and configurations will be saved to the cabinet each time you exit the DNE). DNE and room configurations work like any other tile - they can be attached to any NE, given any combination of fields and can be found with the search engine.

A room configuration tile can only be played in a room that supports that configuration. An Maps room tile can only be opened in the Maps room, for example. Workroom tiles can be opened in any workroom. If you try to open a room configuration tile in a room that does not support it, the DNE will offer to take you to a room that does support it, and open the tile there. If it is a workroom tile, you can choose any room to open the configuration in.

Auto-filing room and DNE configurations

Auto-file allows you to track the history of all the work you do in the DNE. At the close of every work session, the DNE takes a snapshot of the DNE and of each room, and files the DNE configuration tile and all the room configuration tiles in the cabinet. This means that, at any time in the future you can return to a past state either of the DNE or of any room. Say you are updating a proposal you wrote months ago. Simply call up the room configuration where and when you were working on it, and you will have access to the NE you used to manage the proposal, whatever useful tiles and NEs you were keeping on the bench at the time, etc.

i_blueRoom tiles are always saved to an NE named for the room (e.g., all Maps configurations are saved to an NE called "Maps"). Every time you change the name of a workroom, a new NE is created under the cabinet - office configuration - rooms NE in the cabinet. This feature makes it easy to track progress on a piece of work by gathering together all the auto-filed configurations for a project as tiles to an NE named for that project.
