How to Read an Object Model

Top  Previous  Next

The object model is read in the Maps room.

To read an object model:

1.Unlike in the other rooms, in Maps the activation area is in the top middle of the room. Drop an NE in the activation area to activate it.

2.

If you are in repository mode, rightclick on the active NE and mouseover Object Model.

3.Select the appropriate model.
4.The model is presented from the perspective of the active NE. Therefore, the active NE takes center stage and the model displays all and only those NEs which contribute to or receive contributions by the active NE, either directly or via intermediate NEs. An NE which is part of the larger strategy but which does not stand in a contribution relation to the active NE does not turn up in the room.
5.The NEs which contribute to the active NE are to its left and the those to which the active NE contributes are to its right.

6.

The position of each NE in the model reflects the path by which it is related to the NE. Each NE that is visible is linked to the active NE, either directly or indirectly.

7.If a model-specific textual note has been added, this field can be accessed in two ways:
To view model field notes for an NE mouseover that NE in the model.
To edit model field notes for an NE:
1.Click on the NE in the model
2.Select Edit Text
3.An edit machine will appear. Add, modify or delete text in the edit machine.
4.Click OK green.

i_blueThe fields of any NE in the model can be viewed. Click on any NE and its fields will appear in the fields area of the active NE.

i_blueThe DNE can trace the forward impact of any NE in the model.

Either rightclick on any NE and select Trace Forward. An trace forward will appear in the bottom right corner of every NE impacted by the traced NE, or
Click and hold on either trace forward on the NE you want to trace forward.

ex_blueTrace forward yields accurate results for every NE to the right of the active NE (contributes to NE). For an NE to the left of the active NE (contributions by NE), the trace will return every NE to the right of the active NE, but will omit NEs that really follow from the traced NE but do not follow also from the active NE.
