How to Set a Tile Preview

Top  Previous  Next

Thumbnail previews are set automatically for image and video tiles. However, a preview can be set for any tile. All previews are set, removed or changed in spill.

To set or change a preview:

1.Open the image file that you want to use as the thumbnail. This can be done in any application, including image editing software or your web browser.
2.Copy the image to your clipboard. There are various ways of doing this, depending on what application you are in. Try:
Select the image and click CTRL + C, or
Rightclick the image and select Copy, or
Rightclick the image and select Copy Image.
4.Then, in the DNE, spill the NE that contains the tile for which you want to set a preview.
5.Rightclick the tile, and
6.Mouseover Change Preview Image... The image you copied should appear there as a thumbnail.
7.Click the image.
8.The image will appear in an editing window.
If you want to use the entire image as your preview, then click button OK tick, or
If you want to use only a portion of the image, then mousedrag over the detail you want to set as the preview to select it (a square will be drawn around the selection), and click button OK tick.

To remove a preview:

1.Spill the NE that contains the tile for which you want to set a preview.
2.Rightclick the tile, and
3.Mouseover Change Preview Image...
4.Select Clear Current Image.

Image and video tiles have previews automatically generated for them. For video tiles, this is set by default to the first frame of the video. The preview can be set to any frame in the video.

To change the preview frame for a video tile:

You can set any frame in a video as the preview for that video. By default, the first frame is selected.

1.In any workroom, open the spill machine, and
2.Spill the NE containing the video tile whose preview you want to change.
3.Rightclick on the tile, and
4.Select Change Starting Frame. The frame selector will open. Eight frames will be displayed. The current preview frame is in the middle, flanked by evenly distributed frames covering the duration of the video (this means that, if the current frame is the first frame, then the first four distributed frames will all be the same).
5.Use the media scroller split pea scroller media editor to find the frame you want.
6.Click the desired frame. It will be outlined in green.
7.Click OK.

Note that the preview frame for a video clip has to be a frame that exists in the clip. It cannot be a frame that exists at some other point in the same source recording.
