Click the in the web recorder on the right end of the bench. The DNE will open the web recorder and access the internet.
The internet manager currently supports only Internet Explorer.
You can now browse the internet. However, the DNE will only track your research when the web recorder is recording. The DNE will ask you if you want to start recording immediately. You can either start recording immediately or you can navigate to a different starting page and start recording from there.
To start recording immediately:

A dialog box will ask you if you want to start recording immediately. Click.
To start record at any point:
•
When the dialog box asks you if you want to start immediately, click.
•
Navigate with the browser as normal, until you arrive at the web page at which you want to start recording.
•
Click the . The will change into a to indicate that the web recorder is recording. A or a willappear in the bottom left corner of the web recorder, on the bottom recording line.
All web pages are saved to the web recorder, unless the web recorder is paused (for instance, if you pause in the middle of a research task in order to check your email).
To pause while recording a session:
•
Click the . It will turn into to indicate that the session is paused.
To continue recording a paused session:
•
Click the . It will turn into to indicate that the session is being recorded again.
Use this function if you want to do some browsing that is unrelated to your research, for instance if you want to check your email in the middle of an internet work session.
Each of the nine topic recorders is used to manage a set of web pages that belong to any topic you want. This topic recorder is empty.
Once a topic recorder is engaged (either by opening it directly on the recorder or simply by adding a web page to that line). When engaged, a topic recorder can be renamed or saved to an NE.
To engage a topic recorder:

Rightclick any empty topic recorder and select Start Tile Recording, or
•
Click the immediately to the left of any (engages the topic recorder and adds the current web page to the new topic recorder), or
•
Drag any web page to anywhere on the line stretching out to the right of the (engages the topic recorder and adds the dragged web page to the new topic recorder).
Each web page is represented by a or a (depending on whether a preview is accessible for it - see Settings below). New web pages are added to the browser recorder as they are visited in your browser. Once present in the web recorder, they can be added to any topic recorders.
To set a target NE for the topic recording:

Drag any onto the (to set target NE and engage topic recorder) or (to set target NE after the topic recorder is already engaged). The NE will appear
To rename a topic recorder:

Rightclick the ,
2.
Select Rename.
3.
Enter the desired name, and
4.
Click. The new topic name will be displayed at the bottom of the recorder (e.g., ).
Note that these steps can be completed in nearly any order and that what exactly appears on the topic recorder on the left side of the web recorder will vary depending on what steps have been completed. For instance, you do not have to set a target NE in order to use a topic line. A topic line can be created and used without a target NE set, web pages can be saved from there and the whole session can be saved. The only time you absolutely have to set a target NE for the line is if you want to save the single topic line as a topic line tile .
