How to Subdocument and Index Audio and Video Information

Top  Previous  Next

The DNE has complete multimedia sub-documenting and indexing capabilities with its audio/video editor in each of the three workrooms. It also has limited quick-edit audio and video subdocumenting abilities on the media screen in every room.

media editor linesTo prepare for a media editing session:

1.Rightclick on the audio or video tile to be edited
2.Select Edit. The tile will open in the media editor.
3.media editor - target NEBy default, the NE affiliated with the tile you want to edit also opens in the bottom topic recorder. By default, clips created on this line are targeted to this NE. However, you can send any clip to any NE. A selected NE can either replace the default NE or can be added as a second NE (you can use up to 10 topic recorders to send different clips to up to 10 different target NEs).
To replace the default NE, drag any NE onto the media editor - target NE icon in the bottom left topic recorder.
To add an NE, drag any NE Bar into the media editor. It will drop on the next free line above the media editor - target NE.
4.Add up to 10 NEs to different topic recorders as in step 3.

The media editor can only be opened when the spill machine is not already open. Note that by closing the spill machine, you do not lose the NEs and tiles that are in it: reopen the spill machine, and all the spilled tiles will be just where you left them.

Audio and video clips are created by recording segments when the source tile is being played in the media editor. They can be fine-tuned when the original is finished, or when the original's playback is paused.

To play the source tile in the media editor:

Media editior play buttonClick the play/pause button in the center of the media editor on the right end of the bench to play the source tile. As the tile is played in the editor, you can watch or listen to it exactly as when it is being played in the media player in any other room. As well, the media scroller media editor - split pea scroller, which extends out beneath the bottom topic recorder, measures the duration of the original recording.

media editor pause buttonClick the play/pause button when you want to pause playback of the source tile. Whenever the source tile is playing, the play button is replaced by a pause button. Playback can be paused at any time. Whenever the source tile is paused, you can fine-tune the clips that you have created.

As the original is playing, each topic recorder can be turned on, to start a clip recording, and turned off, to end a clip recording. Any combination of topic recorders can be recording at the same time, and any topic recorder can record any number of snippets.

To start/stop a clip, on any topic recorder:

Note that saving all clips on all lines is not the same as saving a session. If you save an audio session tile tile audio session or a video session tile Tile video session, you are saving single tile that opens the session in the  mediarecorder with all clips displayed and accessible. If you save all clips on all lines you save each clip as its own audio subdocument tile tile audio subdocument or video subdocument tile tile video subdocument. Each individual clip is saved to its target NE.

You can either save a session as a new session tile or update the current session.

To save a new session tile:

Click multipurpose save on the media editor on the right end of the bench.

To update an existing session tile:

Editing on the media screen rather than with the media editor offers more limited functionality (no previewing, for instance) and is designed to facilitate quick capture of single clips. To access full functionality, use the media editor.
