The DNE allows you to gather information that you are going to bring into the DNE when the DNE is closed, and then bring it into the DNE the next time you open it. This is done with the DNE drag in-out folder on your desktop , the front room drag in ball on far left side of the bench in the DNE, or the cabinet drag in ball .
The drag in folder allows you earmark a file for use in the DNE as a tile, even when the DNE is not open. It is a temporary holding area for soon-to-be-tiles - once dragged to an NE in the DNE, the file is removed from the drag in folder. The DNE will remind you when there are files in the drag in folder, so you don't have to worry about misplacing information.
The drag in folder is also used to export the file component only of a tile so that the file can be accessed and used in non-DNE environments. A tile is composed of a file plus its fields. When the file is dragged out via the drag in ball, the fields are not dragged out with it. If you want to export the fields along with the file, then you have to export the tile. If you do this, the file can only be opened by another DNE
How to Use the Drag In-Out Balls and Folder

| 5. | Rightclick on the NE, and |
| 7. | Select Files from Drag-In Folder. All files in the drag in-out folder will be created as tiles and added to the tile scroller of the active NE. |

| 1. | Drag the tile onto the on the far left side of the bench. |

| 3. | Use the file as normal (cut and paste to another folder, etc.) |
In order to drag a file out of the DNE, you must drag a tile that has an associated file. You cannot drag out a file for blank tiles, subdocuments, etc., because these tiles do not have any file directly associated with them.
