DNE Utilities

The DNE is a database application. While you can backup your database directly from the DNE, most database operations are performed with the DNE Utilities application.  DNE Utilities will backup, restore or rebuild you database, it keeps an error log, allows you to register Add-In applications that may have been installed after the DNE, and it lets you associate tile types.

utilities - backup data files -  The DNE should be backed up as often as you would save any working document on your computer. DNE backups save the current state of the DNE, including all NEs, all tiles (except for the files to which the tiles are linked), all fields and all relations between objects. All configurations are also saved, as well as the objects on the bench in every room.

i_blueYou can also back the DNE up from the DNE, in the fusebox. However, backups can only be restored from Utilities.

utilities - restore data files - Restores data files. This should only be performed in case of a hard drive failure or a recommendation by Dekstrus. Restoring data will restore all information storage files, but will not restore files associated with tiles.

utilities - rebuild data files - Rebuilds data files. This should only be run if the DNE does not open due to data corruption or if you were instructed by Dekstrus.

utilities - show error log - The DNE tracks errors. Use the error log when receiving technical assistance from Dekstrus.

utilities - register add-ins - The DNE communicates directly with Microsoft® Word, Excel®, PowerPoint® and Visio®. If these applications are installed prior to the DNE, the DNE will add speed buttons to these applications. If they are installed after the DNE, you can add speed buttons by running register add-ins.

utilities - files in system - view-cleanup - Allows you to view information about the files in your Files in System folder. When you bring a tile  into the DNE it either links to a file saved externally or copies the file to the "Files in System" folder. This utility allows you to view and update the status of files in the "Files in System" folder. The utility tracks the number of times each file has been accessed by the DNE, and whether or not a tile currently exists to which each file is affiliated. If a file is not linked to any currently existing tile, the file may be deleted. However, a file not linked to an existing tile is still linked to at least one tile that existed in the past. If you delete a file that is linked to a past tile, you will not find the file when you search for it in the past.

utilities - data in system - view-cleanup- In the DNE, information is never lost. NEs and tiles that have been deleted can be found again in the search engine. However, NEs and tiles can be deleted permanently in Utilities. This may improve performance of the DNE, but will mean that the deleted NEs and tiles cannot be recovered. When Utilities generates the NE and tile lists, a search results - green tick is placed beside the NEs and tiles that currently exist in the DNE, and an search results - red X is placed by NEs and tiles that have been deleted, but are still recoverable. This list can be altered by clicking the search results - green tick or search results - red X to toggle. When there is an search results - red X by all and only the NEs and tiles you want to delete permanently, click search results - red X.

utilities - delete all data - Delete all data will delete all DNE data files. This process cannot be reversed.

ex_blueIf you delete all your data, then you will have an empty DNE. It is recommended that you backup your DNE before you delete, just in case.
