Affinity Area in Object Model Mode

Top  Previous  Next

NE-areas-affinity-onceFor the most part, NEs can only play a role in an object model by contributing  to  other NEs in the model, or getting contributions from other NEs. Therefore, generally NEs in the affinity area do not play a role in the model. In fact, when you publish a map, affinity relations are ignored.

However, although NEs in affinity do not play a part in an object model, the affinity area can still play an important part in building an object model. Affinity can be used as a holding area for NEs that belong in the model. If you know that one NE is related to another, but you haven't yet determined exactly how, you can relate the NEs by affinity. This would not be a final solution, but rather a provisional or rough-and-ready organization: by placing the NE in affinity you capture the NE "somewhere around" where it belongs in the final version of the model. Once you work out exactly where everything goes, NEs would have to be moved from affinity to the appropriate contribution wing

An affinity NE is not, yet, a part of the model, but it belongs in the model and is waiting to be assigned the proper role and given the proper position in a wing.
