How to create an NE from an existing folder
| • | From a folder via Windows® Explorer |
When you drag a folder, its files are automatically dragged with it. However, any subfolders in it (and the files in those subfolders) can either be dragged with the main folder or simply left out of the DNE Desktop.
| 1. | Drag any folder from your folder structure and drop it on any NE in the cabinet |
| 2. | This dialogue box will appear: |

You can either create copies of these files for use from the DNE Desktop only, or you can leave them where they are and the DNE Desktop will link to the existing files. Select your preference.
| 3. | If the folder you dragged does not have any subfolders within it, then you are finished. If the folder does have subfolders in it, then this dialogue box will appear: |

On this dialogue box you decide whether you want to recreate all the subfolders as NEs or just create an NE for the dragged NE. Select your preference.
If you use the full DNE as well as the DNE Desktop, your cabinet is identical in both applications, so you can update in either cabinet knowing that you are updating both at the same time.
The NE structure is not synchronized with your folder structure. If you recreate your folder structure in the cabinet and then after that create a new file or folder in a folder that has been dragged into the cabinet, the new file or folder will not be added automatically to the cabinet. You have to add new knowledge manually.

How to remove an NE from the cabinet
| 1. | Rightclick on the NE you want to remove from the cabinet, and |

This option is designed for DNE Desktop users who also use the DNE. In the DNE, NEs can be linked together in other ways than just the cabinet, therefore severing cabinet links in the DNE does not mean that all links are severed (if you remove an NE from the cabinet, it still has all its contributions and affinities). However, if you use only the DNE Desktop, then removing an NE from the cabinet amounts to the same thing as deleting it.
