How to access the NEs in a top level cabinet

All your top level cabinets are displayed as tabs or buttons along one side of the cabinet.

Click the appropriate tab or button. The cabinet will open in the left hand column and all the NEs in the cabinet will be visible and accessible.

The selected top level cabinet is indicated by cabinet tab - selected. Unselected top level cabinets are indicated by cabinet tab - unselected. The selected top level cabinet is the cabinet that is displayed fully open in the tree in the left hand column.

How to create a new NE under a top level cabinet or under any NE in your tree

The top level cabinet or NE has to be visible either in the tree on the left hand side, or in any of the twelve panels in order for you to create an NE under it.

1.Rightclick on the top level cabinet or NE under which you want to locate the new NE, and
2.Select New.
3.A dialogue will ask you to name the NE. Name it, and
4.Click button OK.

How to create an NE from an existing folder

From a folder via Windows® Explorer

When you drag a folder, its files are automatically dragged with it. However, any subfolders in it (and the files in those subfolders) can either be dragged with the main folder or simply left out of the DNE Desktop.

1.Drag any folder from your folder structure and drop it on any NE in the cabinet
2.This dialogue box will appear:

dialogue box - copy or link

You can either create copies of these files for use from the DNE Desktop only, or you can leave them where they are and the DNE Desktop will link to the existing files. Select your preference.

3.If the folder you dragged does not have any subfolders within it, then you are finished. If the folder does have subfolders in it, then this dialogue box will appear:

dialogue box - create subfolders

On this dialogue box you decide whether you want to recreate all the subfolders as NEs or just create an NE for the dragged NE. Select your preference.

i_blueIf you use the full DNE as well as the DNE Desktop, your cabinet is identical in both applications, so you can update in either cabinet knowing that you are updating both at the same time.

ex_blueThe NE structure is not synchronized with your folder structure. If you recreate your folder structure in the cabinet and then after that create a new file or folder in a folder that has been dragged into the cabinet, the new file or folder will not be added automatically to the cabinet. You have to add new knowledge manually.

4.Click button OK with arrow.

How to remove an NE from the cabinet

1.Rightclick on the NE you want to remove from the cabinet, and
2.Select Remove from Cabinet View

ex_blueThis option is designed for DNE Desktop users who also use the DNE. In the DNE, NEs can be linked together in other ways than just the cabinet, therefore severing cabinet links in the DNE does not mean that all links are severed (if you remove an NE from the cabinet, it still has all its contributions and affinities). However, if you use only the DNE Desktop, then removing an NE from the cabinet amounts to the same thing as deleting it.
