How to create an NE from an existing folder
NEs are created by dragging a folder from the bench or from outside the DNE Desktop into the cabinet's left hand side tree or into any of it's twelve panels. When you drag a folder, its files are always dragged with it. However, any subfolders in it can either be dragged with the main folder or simply left out of the DNE Desktop.
| 1. | Drag any folder from your folder structure and drop it on any NE in the cabinet |
| 2. | This dialogue box will appear: |

This refers to the files in the folder(s) you are dragging in. You can either create new copies of these files to be used in the DNE Desktop, or you can leave them where they are and the DNE Desktop will link to the existing files. Select your preference.
| 3. | If the folder you dragged does not have any subfolders within it, then you are finished. If the folder does have subfolders in it, then this dialogue box will appear: |

On this dialogue box you decide whether you want to recreate all the subfolders as NEs or just create an NE for the dragged NE. Select your preference.
If you use the full DNE as well as the DNE Desktop, your cabinet is identical in both applications, so you can update in either cabinet knowing that you are updating both at the same time.
The NE structure is not synchronized with your folder structure. If you recreate your folder structure in the cabinet and then after that create a new file or folder in a folder that has been dragged into the cabinet, the new file or folder will not be added automatically to the cabinet. You have to add new information manually. Also, if you link files and then move the files, the DNE Desktop will not be able to find them.
| 1. | If the cabinet is not displayed, click to display the cabinet. |
| 2. | Ensure that the target NE or target top level cabinet is visible in the cabinet, either in the left hand side tree or in any panel. |
| 3. | Drag the folder onto the target NE or top level cabinet. |
| 4. | Select Add this Folder as a Knowledge Element. |
