Web pages and emails from Outlook® can be brought into the DNE Desktop and added either to the bench or to any desktop. From there, you can drag them into any NE in the cabinet or onto any spill line.
How to drag a web page or email onto a desktop or the bench
| 1. | In the desktop area, ensure that your drag in preference is set to either Copy my files/folders or Move my files/folders (that is, not to Make shortcuts - see warning below). |
| 2. | Drag the web page icon at the far left of the address bar and drop it onto your regular Microsoft® Windows® desktop or anywhere in your regular Windows® Explorer tree structure, then |
| 3. | Drag the web page icon from the Windows® environment onto the bench or onto any of your DNE Desktop's desktops. |
| 4. | Once the second drag has been completed, you may choose to delete the icon from the Windows® desktop (see warning below). |
This is a case where it is recommended that you set your desktop preference to either Copy my files/folders or Move my files/folders. If you choose to set your preference to Make shortcuts, it will work fine, but you will not be able to delete the icon from your Windows® desktop (or wherever you put it in your Windows Explorer tree structure). Deleting the icon in the Windows® environment will sever the link from the DNE Desktop object and the web page or email. But you probably do not want to clutter your Windows® desktop up with a bunch of links to web sites and emails, and you probably do not want to manage extra shortcut files anywhere when the drop into Windows® is just a pit stop on the way to the DNE Desktop. So, in order to avoid broken links, set your preference to either Copy my files/folders or Move my files/folders. That way you can delete the icons from the Windows® environment and manage only the Desktop icons. It is also okay to set it to Always ask me, and select Copy my files/folders or Move my files/folders when asked.
It is easy to set thumbnail preview to identify a web page or an email (perhaps a screen shot of the web page, or the company's logo). To find out how to add previews to objects, click here.
