About Previews

The DNE Desktop uses an object-oriented interface in which every folder, file, NE and tile is represented visually, by an object. These objects have default graphics, but it is very easy to change how any of these objects are represented, by setting a preview for any object you want. Previews make it easy to distinguish which object is which, and also act as reminders about what each object is. For example, if you are gathering news articles on a topic, you might wish to indicate the source for each article by adding the logos of the respective news sources to each of the articles you got from there.

Previews are created using your computer's clipboard, so everything is done by simple copy/paste. And you can create a preview from either a complete image or you can select any detail from the image (with mousedrag ease) to make the best possible preview for you.

Object previews can be resized on the desktop and also (for tiles) in spill. Changing the size of an object can indicate anything you want, include immanent importance or time-sensitivity. Because you can make objects any size you want, previews are saved in high resolution, so even if you make an object very large, it will still look good.
